Atatürk’s Home

Like the legend of Turkey Atatürk, fine art also lives forever. For his role in securing the Ottoman Turkish victory at the Battle of Gallipoli (1915) during World War I. Atatürk’s self-portrait is seen today in many Turkish homes across the entire country. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881-1938) was an army officer who founded the independent Republic of Turkey out of the ruins of the Ottoman Empire.

Welcome to Ordu, historically also known as Cotyora or Kotyora, Black Sea, a place where local cuisine consists of Pide and Kebab. Turkey, an abode of mysterious fine arts. An old abandoned cottage from the outside, while on the inside, a gallery is hidden from the world, housing it’s most treasured leader, the legendary Atatürk.

A single piece of history hangs on the wall, the portrait of the most prominent man in Turkey’s history, Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of the Republic of Turkey. Apart from being the first president of Turkey in 1923, he was responsible for major progressive reforms that modernised Turkey as an industrial nation today. Atatürk passed on in 1938, and to date, Turkish people respect him; most hang his portrait in their homes to remember this great man.

Sunlight penetrates through the makeshift window, a piece of translucent cloth covers the broken window. The walls bear some scratches that appear to be stylistic in the picture.

Imagine a piece of history left in a forgotten museum, a dilapidated home withholding such an evergreen beauty that never fades.

Long live Atatürk
